Committee Acknowledgements

Downey Park Netball Association would like to put on record the contribution of members of the Management Committee who have retired from Office at the end of 2009 and to acknowledge and thank them for their involvement with the Association in a volunteer capacity over many years. Our Association values the contribution of all our volunteers and without them and their commitment there would be no netball at Downey Park. We would also like to welcome our new members to the Management Committee and hope that they will enjoy their time on the Committee. It is very exciting to see that for 2010 we have seven of the thirteen DPNA Clubs represented on the Management Committee.

Denise Buckby joined the Downey Park committee in 2003 as Coaching Convenor in which role she continued until 2008 before taking on the promotions officer position for 2009. Coaching Convenor is a challenging role particularly as for the first few years in this role there was no Rep. Team Coordinator to work with her. Not only was Denise responsible for organising coaches training courses, finding coaches for DPNA teams but she was also responsible for organising the representatives teams, no small task particularly when Carnivals were outside the Metropolitan area. During Denise’s time as Coaching Convenor we had many coaches achieving their basic coaching level or gaining their level 1 qualification. Our teams performed well at State Carnivals.

Denise was always ready to challenge the other members of the executive to think about what they were doing and to keep in mind the Association’s overall objectives. Thank you Denise for the major contribution you have made to the Association over your seven years of involvement.

Toni Blakey also joined the Downey Park committee in 2003 as Promotions Officer, which role she happily swapped for equipment officer the following year and two years later took on the role of Fixtures Convenor. Always calm and in control, Toni did a great job in her various roles. She took a break from the committee in 2007 and 2008 although she frequently assisted Pam Greer with the fixtures role on a Saturday. In 2009 she stepped back into the equipment officer’s position and fulfilled this role throughout the year. The two floods, which both impacted on our uniform and equipment storage, didn’t make it an easy year for the equipment officer. We weren’t able to persuade Toni to stay on for another year although I am sure she will continue to have some involvement in the future and help us out if needed. Thanks you Toni for always being available to help out.
